Street photography in Mallorca
To escape the dreary winter in Austria, I treated myself to a week’s vacation in the sunny south of Europe in early 2023. It was my first time to visit the beautiful island of Mallorca.
I was enjoying a great week of vacation and also used my time for some street photography in Mallorca.
I recently picked up a pre-owned Sony Alpha 7C and a Tamron 17-28 f/2.8 wide angle lens which I used on this trip for street photography for the first time.
Both, the camera and the lens, will be reviewed in depth in upcoming posts.
In this photo-centric post, I’d like to share some of my street photography pictures from Mallorca and give some background information on how and where these photos were taken.
I hope you enjoy my street photography from Mallorca.
Impressions from the weekly markets
I would like to start with a some lively impressions of two weekly markets that we’ve visited in the towns of Sineu and Santa Maria del Cami located in the center of the island.
I can highly recommend these markets for street photography, here you can find some more information about the markets.
Both, locals and tourists are heading to the town center in joyful anticipation and at noon time at the latest the market on the main square and in the adjacent narrow streets, are very well attended.
People buy the most diverse things here, such as local goods and food…
…and also lingerie and clothing…
…but also somewhat unusual things such as small farm animals and pets.
Beach street photography
I haven’t visited a beach in the Mediterranean for a few years, so I spent quite some time on the beach in Mallorca.
The camera, of course, was always with me to capture interesting, sometimes funny, beach scenes.
Street life in Palma de Mallorca
On a Saturday afternoon I walked through the streets of the capital city Palma de Mallorca and tried to capture some lively snapshots along the city center.
Tourist and animal encounters
Although Mallorca is of course much less visited in winter than in the high season in summer, you will constantly meet tourists from a wide variety of countries. Here are a few tourist encounters.
Just like at home, I am always attentive when I meet animals on the streets, because with a little patience, this always results in interesting scenes with pets as the main protagonists.
Best areas for street photography in Mallorca
I didn’t visit all the places in Mallorca, of course, but the best spots for street photography in Mallorca, in my opinion, were:
- the weekly markets, among others in Sineu and Santa Maria del Camí
- the lively beaches of the island
- the city center and the port of Palma de Mallorca
- the area around the Cathedral La Seu in Palma de Mallorca
Mallorca is really worth a trip during winter time, when it is often cold and uncomfortable in Central Europe. Indeed it is a nice and mostly warm and friendly destination for street photography.
I hope you enjoyed my Mallorca photos in this post!
All photos were taken with the Sony Alpha 7C and the Tamron 17-28 mm f/2.8 with focal lengths between 20-28mm.
